When I communicate, I aim to inform or persuade accurately, invite collaboration, and move things to concrete next steps. I tailor the message to the audience, state the goal early, and organise around the main points with examples. I expect questions and address them upfront, using clear, concise language. I finish with a specific next step, deadline, or ask for feedback so everyone knows what happens next. I also want to say I heard this line in the movie coach Carter, the line went like this “Its not just in some of us its in all of us” . It’s used to express the idea that potential and drive aren’t just present in a few individuals they exist in everyone and can be activated through effort and belief.
Being an effective communicator
Effective communication is an important skill that helps people understand each other better. It means clearly sharing our thoughts and ideas while also listening carefully and kindly to what others have to say. When we communicate well, conversations become open and everyone feels valued, making it easier to work together and solve problems. Using clear words, paying attention to body language, and being aware of our tone can improve our interactions. Overall, good communication builds trust and respect, making our personal and professional relationships stronger and ensuring our messages come through clearly and kindly.
Great communication
What parts of communication am I good at you may ask? I haven’t got experience behind communicating as I was brought up as an only child so I didn’t have much siblings to communicate with as they were a lot older than me. They had normal lives to continue with, they had to attend 9-5 jobs and they had to look after the children etc. I was kind of a loner back in primary as I was more into adult things such as working on cars and working on projects that would keep you up all night long. Soon as my hands touched an engine I fell in love with it. It was quite frankly my favourite thing to do and I would sit in the shed for hours cleaning parts or even just sweeping the floor. It was my own little space that no one would come in and interfere with my little space. all I can say is I haven’t had the chance to learn or experience what it is like to constantly communicate because I was always by myself it is a good thing to have but it does not suit everyone as other people have their own aspects about it.
Writing a reflection on one aspect of building you took part in last week
For the past term or two we have been building a fence on the school premises. We are building the fence on a hill that is covered in Brush, clay, mud, tree branches etc. Also the hill is slippery as it makes it hard to work. Our first achievement was to get all the rails up. We had to notch the joints so we could put a 10mmx160mm coach bolt through the centre of the joint on the rail. We also had to drill and spade holes through the timber so the head of the coach bolt don’t interfere with the palings. Angles needed to be cut on the joints of the rails because the ground level is not flat, the ground starts to majorly drop. The tool used to find the angle is called a sliding bevel, it is a simple design making it very easy to use. You may ask what was holding the rails up when we were drilling the holes? We did not hold the rails up by hand when drilling through the rails and post, the rails were held on by temporary screws. After all the rails were up our next mission was to get the palings up, to do so we just ran a string line to the height that we wanted. How did we get the gap that we wanted? Well we just used a secondary pale that has the same thickness as the ones we are using and we just put it in between the pails giving us the exact gap that we wanted.
My successes so far this year
I have had many successes throughout my year so far I have acquired much better building skills. In what way you may ask well I have developed skills that help me understand the hazards and the consequences that curtain tools have for example:a nail gun, there are many consequences if a nail gun is used or handled incorrectly and shooting you or someone would be your main consequence but you also have back fire holding the gun with a non firm grip will react in something we call kick back it’s caused by the force created by the firing force of the nail. I have also developed a skill called skewing it is a nailing technique that is used for nogs you nail from under the piece of timber so the head of the nails do interfere with mounting presses of the ply for the walls .
Reflection of this year
My year so far is going good and bad. But we all have our ups and downs Let’s start off with the good things throughout the year. My first achievement was getting into the construction trades academy. It has been a big game changer for me and my future. The class provides amazing knowledge and gives great opportunities as you learn. And it is also practical so it also gives you motivation to move forward. I am so grateful to be able to attend the trades academy. It gives you a clear mind of what you want in life and gives you options for your future. Also I have been smashing through paper work which was my main priority and it also gives you good knowledge which is a big achievement. I have had one down this year and it was my car getting crashed into. the car took a big impact and took some bad damage. I did get reimbursed but the car was a confidential reminder of what it was like to own something really nice. It was a huge success to get that car it took a lot of effort to buy the car. It wasn’t the flashest or the best but it got me from A to B and that’s what really mattered it gave me freedom and wisdom. But hey we move forward and we have to forgive because if we don’t forgive we can’t move forward.
CTA health and safety
in my opinion it means being safe at all times and not to take short cuts . Also what I learnt was being a CPU is a lot of work. Everything is relying on you if you are a CPU you take control of everything so if something goes wrong or a mistake is made the CPU has to act on it or the CPU can be in a lot of trouble. If a problem occurs the CPUs job is to take control of the problem and he or she makes the next decision to make things right .
Necessity is the mother of inventions
to me this means you have to need things more than you want them. For example what do you need to live of course you need food water power a car but most people look at what they want instead of what they need. All I’m saying is don’t waste your hard earned money on stuff you don’t need. To invent something you have to have what is needed not what is wanted. Like they say you need a female to create a human being. Or the other way around. Ill end with a quote “Your future depends upon many things
but mainly it depends upon you.”
learning to take responsibility for myself
learning how to take responsibility for your self is a good habit to get into . It don’t take much to learn people ask what does it mean? it means being able to wake up for school and getting to school in time another question is what does it mean to you? what it means to me is for example I’m gonna try and finish all my paperwork by term 3 week 10 . So you set goals for yourself to complete task step by step .
What I learned in the mechanics course
We were learning the basic mechanisms of an engine. For starters there are three things an engine needs to be able to run fuel, air, spark but what if it is a high compression engine? All a high compression engine needs is fuel, air, and heat . High compression engines have a system called self ignition combustion in a 4 stroke cycle. The engine heats the glow plugs up then it will open the intake valve allowing air in. With the exhaust valve closed the engine has all this heat air so the engine will compress the air that is in the engine. Because the hot air is at a high pressure as soon as fuel (diesel) hits the hot air mixture it ignites like a bomb and that is what I learned this week
